Amit Singh

Amit Kumar Singh was a candidate for the Republican Party nomination for United States House of Representatives in Virginia's 8th congressional district. He ran against Mark Ellmore in the primary election.[1]

[edit] Early life and education
Singh was born in Colonial Heights, Virginia,[2] to parents who emigrated from India. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical engineering at the University of Virginia in 1996.[3] His father is a professor of statistics at Virginia State University.[4]

Singh is an engineer by trade and works in the United States Intelligence Community as a federal contractor with his own small business. He has performed work for the White House, NASA, FCC, NSA, and various agencies within the United States Department of Defense.[5][6]

Singh is a traditional Republican.[7] He advocates fiscal conservatism, limited government, and a strong national defense.[8] Singh is opposed to campaign finance reform, however he signed the Change Congress pledge stating he will not take contributions from registered lobbyists or PACs.[9] He supports Congressional term limits, the right to keep and bear arms, and an end to the federal war on drugs.[10]

Singh faced Mark Ellmore in the June 10, 2008 Republican primary. Ellmore won the election, with 56% of the vote to Singh's 44%.[11]
