Amit Choubey is a well known classical tabla player in India, best known for his performances with Anup Jalota (Bhajan and Ghazal exponent).
Amit studied for several years and received meticulous training and guidance under Tabla Pt. Shri Karodilal Bhatt ji in Jabalpur (M.P.). Currently he is taking advanced Tabla Training from Ustad Alla Rakha Music Institute under the World-renowned Tabla Maestro and prodigious percussionist Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pt. Yogesh Samsi in Mumbai, India. Amit also plays Pakhawaj, Dholak and many other Indian percussion instruments.
Amit has has worked with many Hindustani classical vocalists, light vocalists and instrumentalists such as, Dr. Sushila Tai Pohankar, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Pt.Purushotum Das Jalota, Ustad Rais khan (Sitar), Pt. Dhruva Ghosh (Sarangi), Abhijit Pohankar (Keyboard), Rakesh Chaurasia (Flute), Ghazal maestros Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Anup Jalota, Suresh Wadhekar, Hariharan, Talat Aziz, Rajendr Mehta and Habib Wali Muhammed.
As a soloist, Amit has performed extensively in India, America, Canada, South Africa, Holland, Russia, Australia, New Zeland and Fiji. A keen student of world music, Amit has also performed with Percussion Maestros Taufiq Qureshi, Ranjit Barot, Trilok Gurtu. Amit has become one of the regular tablists of the Indian film and music industry. He has played for many films and many classical, devotional, light music and Fusion albums.
In 2001-2002 The Government Of India honored him with the prestigious National Music Scholarship
