Amirim

Amirim is a cooperative moshav in the Galilee, Israel populated entirely by vegetarians and vegans. Today about 150 families live there.[1]Amirim is located 650 m. above sea level on a hill overlooking the Sea of Galilee. It is 15 km. from Safed.[2]
The founders of Amirim (lit. Treetops) were among the pioneers of the vegetarian movement in Israel.[1]

Early attempts by Jewish immigrants from Morocco to establish a settlement in the 1950s were not successful. The original name was Shefa Bet. In 1958, a group of Holocaust survivors banded together to create a moshav based on vegetarian ideology.

The main economic branch is tourism. The moshav runs guesthouses and restaurants featuring vegetarian and vegan food.
