Aminiyya School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aminiyya School is a girls' secondary school in Malé, the capital of the Maldives. It is the first girls' secondary school in the country and still remains as the only all-girls' school in the whole of Malé.

It was established in 1944 to accommodate female students from Majeediyya School (then known as "Madhrasathul Saniyya") which became an all-boy institution. The school is divided into four houses, namely Aminarani, Dhainkan'baa, Raadhafathi and Rehendhi.

In 1971, President Gayoom worked at the school, teaching English, Arithmetic, and Islam. He returned there to celebrate Teachers' Day on October 5, 2004.
