Amiko Kobayashi is a fictional character in the Marvel universe. She is of Japanese origin. Amiko is a supporting character of the X-Men but most oftenly allied with Wolverine.

[edit] Fictional character biography

When Japan was under attack by a large dragon, the X-Men and Japan's main hero, Sunfire, were busy dealing with it. However, lots of property was destroyed during the battle, including the houses of innocent citizens. One of these poor folks was Amiko's mother. When their house collapsed, her mom got killed. Amiko somehow managed to survive and was found by the X-Man Wolverine.

Wolverine promised the dying mother to take care of the little girl, but because of his dangerous life as an X-Man, Logan thought he wasn't suited to be a father. He first placed Amiko in the care of his lady love, Mariko Yashida; after her death he handed her to an adoption agency, which placed her with bad foster parents. When Logan wanted to check up on Amiko years later but didn't get any return calls, he investigated the matter. After dealing with the foster parents and some local mobsters, Logan decided to place Amiko in the hands of his good friend, the ronin Yukio.

Despite that Yukio disliked the idea at first, she and Amiko became somewhat of friends over the years. To prevent Amiko from getting in danger, Wolverine enrolled the aid of the Silver Samurai to watch over her, in return for a sword Logan took from Harada years earlier. Harada continues to do his job until this day, though sometimes that didn't prevent Amiko from being the target of Wolverine's enemies. When the Weapon X organization resurfaced, Amiko was kidnapped by Sabretooth, who killed her despite Weapon X's wishes not to. When Sabretooth was dealt with, Weapon X resurrected Amiko and even apologized for the mess to Logan.

Recently, in the limited series Wolverine: Soultaker, Amiko discovered that her mother belonged to a family of warriors called the Shosei and now spends time with them trying to improve her martial arts skills, and hoping to make her adoptive father Logan proud of her.

[edit] Other versions

  • Amiko so far had one alternate appearance, namely in the miniseries Wolverine: Days of Future Past. There, Amiko was believed dead for years by Logan. In reality, she had been brainwashed into becoming an agent of the Hellfire Club called Midnight. When Wolverine discovered about this, Amiko was an adult and truly evil. However, with the aid of telepath Emma Frost, Logan was able to defeat Amiko in battle and restore her sanity.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the comics, Amiko has never been given a surname at this point. However, in the recent Marvel Comics Handbooks, her surname has been revealed to be Kobayashi.
