As of 2001 India census,[2] Amguri had a population of 6944. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Amguri has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 55% of the males and 45% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
