[edit] Templates I've created

[edit] Wikipedia obsessions

  • List of crossings of the Missouri River - On visits to the family in Missouri I crossed every Missouri River highway bridge between Omaha and St. Louis between December 2006 and May 2007.
  • Mormon War - Even though I'm not Mormon, I've been writing a lot about northern Missouri history. A lot of the history of the war has always been written by the Mormons. In research I'm finding that the history really needs to be balanced. The Mormons broke agreements to claim land. It's a Missouri Who's Who that came forward to actually protect them. Missouri did not actually move to exterminate the Mormons. The move was to get them to leave the state. Joseph Smith was in fact moved for his protection (as opposed to Navou where they put him in the local jail and allowed him to be killed).
  • Missouri in the American Civil War - I started researching articles for my own edification about battles around Kansas City and then when writing about the northern Missouri governor being neutral. A good chunk of the Missouri Civil War articles are mine. A lot of the history previously was from a St. Louis perspective but the big battles were in western Missouri (the Battle of Westport was the biggest west of the Mississippi but its field was obliterated by the growth of Kansas City).
  • Honey War - In doing a simple article on the skirmish between Iowa and Missouri produced a whole bunch of cool stuff about surveys and how the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers is the starting point for surveys in western Missouri (and is the defining line for where the Native Americans were moved.
  • Louisiana (New Spain) - The French character of the Louisiana Purchase actually comes from the Spanish period. Several articles on this period have been rewritten.
  • List of Governors of Missouri - I've written a lot of articles about the early governors and changed the list so that it also included the territorial governors which is a colorful cast.
  • List of Mayors of Kansas City, Missouri - No such list existed before I created it. I have the info on the bios for all and upgrade it as I get the chance.

...more as I remember...

[edit] Articles I think I helped give structure to

  • Harry S. Truman - the article earlier was a summary of his administration and had little about his early days. I switched to a chronological approach. It's much easier to get editors to contribute to chronological discussions.
  • Long Island Rail Road - The railroad article was long and confusing. I put subheads for the changes in ownership and filled in some blanks.
  • George Pataki - The New York governor article was a summary. I added a chronological structure by term and that has fleshed out a lot of material.
  • TWA - Again fleshing out the history in chronological order I think helped the story. Much of my contributions were before I understood how to cite references. Others have used a bit of heavy handed editing which I think has dimininshed the articles somewhat.
  • Hell's Kitchen - Yea, that's where I live.
  • Key West, Florida - I've been going there since I was five. Hey, it's a Missouri thing and it's a geographic extreme.
