500K This image is way too big and slows many pages down. Is it possible to reduce the size? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.54.14.14 (talk • contribs) 19:49, December 21, 2006.
- I agree. Is this chart really necessary when we could just put the data in a table in an article. This really hurts my eyes to look at, the background is very distracting. I think we should just pick out the data and embed it in an article. --Sbrools (talk . contribs) 19:50, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

- Yes it is, becuase graphic displays of data are better than tabular data. When Newsweek displays statistical data, do they use illustrations or text? They use illustrations. I've heard many people say that my article Household income in the United States is terribly dry and difficult to read-so I have created illustrations. Consider that while this background may hurt your eyes, the same cannot necessarily said about others. Using graphics instead of text and tables is common sense. - Text of images are very problematic: The image is large. It is significantly less accessible, particularly to users using screen readers. It is much harder for other editors to modify and update. It's impossible to search. And it certainly isn't an illustration or a graphic; it's decorated text. Wikipedia is not striving to be a news magazine like Newsweek, nor textbook full of interesting facts. If the information is dry and dull, decorations will not improve it. — Alan De Smet | Talk 23:33, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you have a point-this graph isn't easy to modify-I still do beleive that the manner in which you present information is important and that decorations can help... I also beleive that income data isn't dull! :D Anyways, as this image isn't easy to modify go ahead and replace it. Signaturebrendel 00:06, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
