Amey Date (born March 31, 1979 in Mumbai, Maharastra) was the fourth place Idol on Sony Entertainment Television's reality show, Indian Idol 2. He was voted off Indian Idol 2 on March 14, 2006. Amey is a fan of respected singers such as Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and his guru, Suresh Wadkar. In addition, Amey loves seafood and watching the Discovery Channel.

Amey Date is a Commerce graduate from Ruparel College, Mumbai. Amey has a musical lineage of his own as his grandfather was part of R.D. Burman's orchestra. Both his sister and mother are trained classical singers as well. Amey himself was trained under the tutelage of renowned playback singer Suresh Wadkar. Amey has trained under Suresh Wadkar for the past 15 years. For the past seven years, he has performed on stage with notable singers such as OP Nayyar, Usha Mangeshkar and Suresh Wadkar.

Currently, Amey teaches music to students at his guruji's academy, the Ajivasan Gurukul at Santacruz. Amey also participated in the reputed musical show Saregama in 1999. Filmfare award winner singer Shreya Ghosal was the winner in the females that same year. Jaspinder Singh won in the males while Amey was the runner-up.

[edit] Post Indian Idol 2

Post Indian Idol 2, Amey has done many stage shows in India with fellow Idol contestants Antara Mitra, Meenal Jain, Abhijeet Sawant, Rahul Vaidya and Aditi Paul. He also did two stage shows for Sony-BMG. In addition, Amey has done playback singing for the forthcoming films Colour Red, Muthbedh and Divorce and Amey was also offered a contract by music director Sandeep Chowta. Amey hopes to release his solo album soon.

Amey recently performed on Sony's 'Dhol Baaje'.
