Old name : Ambapur It famous in history for many things..One of them is Veer Patta the great king (under Mewar)of Amet who fought bravely against Muslims with the than Maharana of Mewar Udai singh who founded Udaipur city famously known as "city of lakes". The great Maharana Pratap was son of Udai Singh.

Vevar Mahadev, the temple of Shiva is very famous tourist place of Amet. It is situated near bank of the river "Chandrabhaga" and surrounded by Aravali hills and great amount of greenary makes a perfect place for all those who wants to go near to nature and peace. Also Asharam ji ashram is near to the temple. Amet is also famous for mandir of lord Jaisingh Shyam ji in the heart of Amet.

Amet is also active when it comes to social activities. various social organizations are working here mainiy RSS(Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh),which is not only largest volunteer organization in the world and also famous for helping society to unite and help each other in times of crisis be it earthquake in Gujrat, or tsunami on southern corner of India.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Amet had a population of 16,669. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Amet has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 59% of the males and 41% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
