Amesbury CDP is a census-designated place comprising the main urban portions of the City of Amesbury, Massachusetts in Essex County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.7 km² (5.7 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.51% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are:

  • 12,327 people,
  • 4,910 households, and
  • 3,093 families residing in the CDP.

The population density is 896.3/km² (2,321.5/mi²). There are 5,099 housing units at an average density of 370.8 persons/km² (960.3 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.87% White, 0.65% African American, 0.21% [[Native American (U.S. Census) |Native American]], 0.60% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,910 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 37.0% are non-families. 29.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 34.5% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who are 65 years of age or older.
