The American School of Kuwait was founded in 1964, making it the longest established American school in Kuwait. Throughout it's history, it has had numerous campuses located throughout Kuwait. Until the mid-1990s, it was separated into two distinct campuses; the elementary and middle schools were both housed in one building in Salwa, while the high school was located in Surra. In the summer of 1994, all 3 schools relocated to Hawalli, the current location, and all 3 schools now share the same campus.

A.S.K. is a K-12 institution which also includes a pre-school (referred to as the Child Development Center). The entire school is housed in a large campus in the Hawalli area of Kuwait, and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. A.S.K. is recognized by the Kuwait Ministry of Education.

As of 2005, the campus has undergone various changes. Grass fields have been added, computer labs have been upgraded, and bathroom facilities have been added. BAE Systems has donated the computer facilities of 8 labs as part of the Kuwaiti government-mandated offset program. It is currently ranked as one of the two best schools in the Middle East.

ASK enjoys a highly esteemed academic program, which excels in mathematics, drama, science, and languages. It is also known for it's "bubble" gym, unique not only in Kuwait but also throughout the Middle East.

ASK's motto is: "Think critically, Act with integrity, Strive for excellence!"
