American Jesus is a single by punk rock band Bad Religion from their album Recipe for Hate.
The song is a cutting attack on then-president George H. W. Bush, who during the first Gulf War claimed America would win as they had Jesus on their side.[citation needed]
Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam also provides guest backing vocals.
The song was played during the Winter X-games on ESPN2 as background music, and MTV used to use the opening of the song during their Extreme Beach Competition show.
Simple Plan played a cover of the song which was subsequently included on their album, Live in Japan 2002.
