The American Heritage Center (AHC) is an archival library located at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The library houses special collections, rare books, manuscripts, artwork, and other historical documents and artifacts.
Established in 1945, the library specializes in historical documents relating to Wyoming and the American west, but has collections pertaining to a wide range of subjects from across the United States and the world. The library claims to have obtained over 90,000 cubic feet of material, and includes the Toppan Library of rare books, which itself contains over 40,000 items. The facility claims itself to be among the most important historical repositories pertaining to the American West.
The AHC is located, along with the University's art museum, at the Centennial Complex, which was designed by Antoine Predock and opened in 1993. The facility is designed for hands-on research, and the University claims that more students do research at the AHC that do students at similar repositories at Yale University, Princeton University, and Harvard University.[1]
