American Furniture Warehouse (AFW) is a furniture company headquartered at Meridian, Colorado. AFW was purchased in 1975 by entrepreneur Jake Jabs. There are now 11 Colorado locations and it is one of the most popular furniture stores in the Front Range. American Furniture strives to be one of the best furniture retailers in the US by following their motto "Sell Furniture For Less, Sell More Furniture!" Jake Jabs' autobiography 'An American Tiger' was recently re-released and is a handbook for entrepreneurs. He details the important steps he took to become a success in the business world. Jabs' Product Information Tags are what he believes kept his company from going under during recent recessions in Colorado, as many other Colorado furniture companies did.
Coloradans will often recognize Jake Jabs from the commercials in which he personally stars. Often the commercials will contain tiger cubs. Jabs was recently featured, along with Ron Zappolo, Tom Shane and Jay Cutler, in an episode of the cartoon South Park, on the 'Guitar Queer-O' episode of season 11. Jabs is know for his philanthropic work and has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charities including Easter Seals. His yearly 48 hour sale for Easter Seals donates 2% of all profits to the charity.
American Furniture Warehouse is the 21st-largest furniture retailer in the U.S., and the fifth-largest privately owned company in the state of Colorado. AFW presently reports annual sales of over $286 million.
