American Ex-Prisoners of War

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

American Ex-Prisoners of War is a service organization based in Arlington, Texas, which was founded in 1942 and chartered by the United States Congress in 1982. The organization attempts to assist the surviving POWs, many of whom are elderly and/or have psychic scars and longterm medical problems. It has more than 20,000 members in some 300 chapters nationwide.

The group is open to American former POWs of all wars and immediate families. Its experienced service officers have for many years assisted former POWs and other veterans in securing medical services and other entitlements.

Former POWs may be eligible for special veterans benefits, including medical care in veterans' hospitals and disability compensation for injuries and diseases caused by internment. These benefits are in addition to regular veterans benefits and services to which they are also entitled.

Widows and minor children of former POWs may qualify for special benefits and compensation.
