American Capital Strategies (NASDAQ: ACAS) is an alternative asset management company based in Bethesda, Maryland and a member of the S&P 500. Founded in 1986 and publicly traded since 1997, American Capital is the largest U.S. publicly traded private equity fund and one of the largest publicly traded alternative asset managers. The Company is the leader in providing capital to middle market companies with sales between $10 million and $750 million. American Capital, both directly and through its global asset management business, is an investor in management and employee buyouts, private equity buyouts and early stage and mature private and public companies. Historically, a majority of its financings have been to assist in the funding of change of control management buyouts. American Capital provides senior debt, mezzanine debt and equity to fund growth, acquisitions, recapitalizations and securitizations. The Company’s portfolio is invested across a diverse range of industries and geographies. American Capital and its affiliates invest from $5 million to $800 million per company in North America and €5 million to €500 million per company in Europe.
