[edit] Biography
Amelia Joffe is the daughter of Bill Monroe. Her parents divorced when she was young and she lived with her mother. Her father later remarried, but Amelia never met the new wife, Angela. Soon after, her father was killed by his wife in what was an alleged act of self defense during a domestic dispute.
Amelia worked in New York as the hostess of a news program. She learned of the Metro Court Hostage Crisis through the media and saw Sam being interviewed by reporters during the Hostage Crisis. She recognized Sam as Angela Monroe, the woman that had married her father and had killed him. Amelia contacted Sam to interview her regarding her heroic efforts during the Metro Court Hostage Crisis. In reality, Amelia chose to interview Sam as a way to get closer to her and get revenge. She offered Sam a job as the host of "Everyday Heroes", a show which portrays how regular people get out of dangerous situations. Amelia used the show Everyday Heroes to research Sam's past and aliases. To date, around four known aliases have been found.
Sam was married to Amelia's father Bill Monroe under her fifth alias of Angela Monroe. Sam, a con artist, married rich middle-aged men, cleaned out their bank accounts and left before they noticed. As Sam attempted to do the same to Bill, he discovered this and confronted her. During a violent altercation, Sam, fearing for her life, used a shotgun to defend herself and Bill died. Sam later revealed that Bill was never angry, but that day she claims he would have beaten her to death if she hadn't shot him.
Amelia becomes Sam's "friend" and confidante. Sam reveals her past to Amelia thinking her to be a friend. She also tells her about Jason's child with Elizabeth Webber. She puts Sam in tense situations, such as reliving an instance of domestic abuse in a setting very similar to where she used to live with Bill Monroe and with an actor that looked like him.
Amelia also becomes involved with Sonny Corinthos, albeit their relationship only seems to be of a sexual nature. Sonny discovers a folder Amelia was carrying with all the research she had about Sam, and Amelia is forced to tell the truth about Sam, her relationship to her and her intentions. Amelia also reveals the truth to Jason while he is in prison. Sam also finds out the truth about Amelia and confronts her with it. She attempts to leave the show but stays, maybe realizing this is all she has left.
When Jason's son with Elizabeth, Jake, is kidnapped, Amelia initially suspects Sam. On June 27, 2007, Amelia phones Maureen, the mother who taped a segment for the show about tragically losing her baby during a fire, and is alerted by what she hears, a baby crying. Knowing Maureen does not have a baby, she begins to suspect something is wrong. She calls Maureen again to get her to sign a release to use the taped segment and while she was talking to her, hears a baby crying again. When she hangs up, Jason Morgan walks in (released on bail) and when she tells him her suspicions they go to find Jake. They find Jake in Maureen's house. Maureen reveals that Sam saw her kidnap Jake but she did not stop her.
Amelia continues to work with Sam, even though the relationship is strained. Amelia has done everything in her power to keep Sam in the show, even using blackmail and enforcing a contract, due to the show's success.
Amelia also did research on Kate Howard and discovers that she is in fact Connie Falconeri. Amelia reveals this to Sonny and Sonny tells her that if she goes public with Kate's past he would go public with their relationship and would tell the media that he influenced the show and paid for it.
While taping Jason's transfer from Pentonville Prison to the Port Charles lock up, she is caught in the middle of a crossfire aimed at Jason. Jason saves her life, for the second time, by pushing her out of the way and she is very grateful. She is planning to use the media to cast Jason in a better light.
