Amelanchier laevis, commonly known as the smooth shadbush or Allegheny serviceberry, is a species of serviceberry. It is a shrub that grows in most soils, however it grows best in moist soil. The berries, which are really a type of pome fruit, start out a magenta color and becomes more purple when it ripens. It is a deciduous tree. It is cultivated as an ornamental shrub.
