[edit] History
Ameera is a native of Iraq, where she met Colonel Winston Mayer, the father of Noah Mayer (and played by Daniel Hugh Kelly), who was stationed in her homeland when he fell for Ameera's mother. While in Iraq, Colonel Mayer protected Ameera's family and provided for them. This preferential treatment made Ameera's immediate family outcasts within her community as well as her family at large. After Colonel Mayer stopped sending money following his arrest for murder, Ameera's mother died and Ameera fled Iraq in search of the colonel. When she found Noah (played by Jake Silbermann) on February 22, 2008, Ameera described a loving, caring colonel, much to the surprise of Noah, who knew his father only as a strict and bigoted man.
Noah and his boyfriend, Luke Snyder (played by Van Hansis), befriended Ameera, allowing her to stay at the Snyder farm. When the expiration of her visa created the danger of deportation for Ameera, Noah and Luke concocted a plan to keep her in the country. In a marriage of convenience, Noah married Ameera. After their wedding, the couple was visited by ICE officers. In order to further the appearance of a legitimate marriage, Noah and Ameera cohabited by moving into a cottage owned by Lucinda Walsh, Luke's grandmother (played by Elizabeth Hubbard), which was previously the residence of Gwen Norbeck and Will Munson (played by Jennifer Landon and Jesse Soffer, respectively). This placed a strain on Noah and Luke's relationship.
During their time living together in the cottage, Ameera developed feelings for Noah. Wanting their marriage to be something more than the in-name-only arrangement they agreed to, on two separate occasions she kissed her husband. After the second time, expecting that Luke would want her to leave, Ameera packed her bags for a return to Iraq. However, Luke did not seem to care about her passes at his boyfriend, telling Ameera to stay. Soon, though, Luke and Noah discovered that Winston was trying to contact Ameera. Noah visited his father in prison to find out what he wanted, but two weeks later Winston escaped from prison, finding Ameera and bringing her with him to New York City.
