- Obviously, this is for Wikipedia:User categories for discussion#Category:Wikipedians by religion and all subcats. You have listed the 31 direct children of Category:Wikipedians by religion, but I note that several of those categories also have child cats and so on. Please go to Category:Wikipedians_by_religion and click recursively on the + signs to see what there is and indicate if you want any of these included as well, and if so, please also remember to add them to the UCFD page. I've tagged the 31 listed for now. By the way, I have no #2 in the list, but I don't know why. --After Midnight 0001 05:06, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- I did a recursive check of categories, and somehow a lot of non-religion categories ended up in it as well. I didn't have the time to sort through all of it, so I figured the main parent cats would be enough. ^demon[omg plz] 13:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Several group nominations
- My intention is to list them in several group nominations (or even possibly individually). Does the bot also list the cats here for easy pasting? (My guess from looking over the above discussions.) Anyway, thanks again : ) - jc37 10:49, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- I can easily create 4 nominations for these, one for each group. I don't normally list all the cats tagged here, but I can do so easily enough if you would like me to. Please note that I tag the categories with {{cfd-user|heading}}. I use whatever heading you use in the nomination, or if you haven't done so yet, I use what I think you want, so for example for the first one I would use {{cfd-user|Category:Wikipedians by organization and subcats}}. The important thing is that they have to match so that when the user clicks on the link on the category page it will take them to the right spot on the UCFD page. Also, because of this, it usually doesn't really make sense for me to tag categories that you want to have their own individual discussion. Finally, I assume that you know that several of these categories have been at UCFD and DRV recently, but if you want any discussion links, please let me know. --After Midnight 0001 21:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

- Ok, I think I understand a bit more clearly now : )
- To clarify my request then:
- If it isn't too much trouble, could you list all the cats/subcats.
- I'll then use those lists to create the nominations.
- And then, after seeing the nominations, you'll tag the categories.
- (Presuming that I did understand : )
- And yes, but unless I misunderstood the DRV discussion, they may be/should be relisted (though preferrably separately). - jc37 09:23, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry, but the bot is only equipped to do more simple tagging. It does not have the ability to change the rename destination for each category that is tagged and would therefore not fulfill your request correctly. The bot is really much more well equipped to deal with deletion discussions than it is for renames. --After Midnight 0001 02:08, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedian category templates
I didn't read the approval pages, so I don't know if these fall under your usage but here's the thought:
Every Wikipedian category should have one of the following two templates transcluded:
And if I'm reading the page correctly, every Wikipedian category should have Template:Wikipedia category at the very top.
Note about category inclusion ala the templates: I copied/created Wikipedian parent category from Template:parent category for the express reason to not have the Wikipedian cats added to the "parent category" category. Seemed like a bad idea to me. If there is a way to do this using the existing template, that would be great, and then feel free to delete the copy. "Wikipedia category" seems to have a modifier, "inhibit", to prevent them from being added to the category.
I hope this all made sense.
Anyway, if you're willing, I think that this would be a "good thing". Thanks in advance : ) - jc37 02:37, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think that AMbot is approved for this, but that could probably be overcome by making a new approval request. I do have some questions/concerns about this.... 1) Are all the Wikipedian categories categorized properly in the tree so that the bot could correctly identify which are and are not to be tagged with one of {{User category}} or {{Wikipedia parent category}}? 2) How would the bot know which should be parent only? If either #1 or #2 is not easily calculable, then a list will need to be created that the bot can run against. As far as {{Wikipedia category}} goes, I believe that is only to be used for Wikipedia namespace categories, i.e. categories of pages which are only (or at least predominately) from WP space.
-
- Well, all the "Wikipedians by..." categories are parent categories. As for the rest, I suppose we could either mark the rest "user" and change the ones to parent which need to be, manually. Or perhaps AMbot could also test whether a certain category's membership didn't include any pages from userspace or user talk space. I would presume that such categories would also be parent cats. (Or maybe after the parent cat templates have been placed at all "Wikipedians by" cats, then I could go through and manually find all the rest of the parent cats, and AMbot could test whether there was one of the two templates present?
-
- Well, Wikipedian categories are not part of the encyclopedia, so they should probably be tagged as used for the project?
-
- This is sounding more complex than it had when I first thought of it : ) - jc37 10:53, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

- Tagging "Wikipedians by..." as parents is easy enough. Testing what a category contains is too complicated for a simple AWB bot like AMbot, but as noted, it could tag all as usercats and then you could do cleanup, though the parameters could not be populated by the bot either. I really don't think that {{Wikipedia category}} is meant to be used all all for these, I think that is mutually exclusive. I think that any category should contain no more than one template from Template:Namespace category. --After Midnight 0001 23:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- Then I probably did a good thing by adding "Wikipedia parent category". I'll see about modifying it to clarify that it's for user cats. Also, I don't understand what you meant by the "parameters" comment. - jc37 09:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

- Template:User category has parameters (fields) that are used to add the description of the category and also which userboxes are available to populate it. --After Midnight 0001 10:14, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedians by location
All these subcats are next, once the "Wikipedians by website" discussions have been archived. I'm going to nominate them all for renaming: "...in..." to "...from...".
At the same time, nominating all the subcats of Wikipedians by ethnicity and nationality, for deletion per identification. And I'm completely open to separating out of the group nom any that are suggested that might be location/residency cats for a separate nomination to be merged/renamed to the "from" naming convention.
But as I said above, I want to wait until the page clears some, first.
Thanks again : ) - jc37 10:53, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, just let me know when you are ready, or if you need a listing to work from. --After Midnight 0001 23:58, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedians by alma mater
Actually, I think that these should be next. These will likely just be a large group nom, so your help with a "small" listing (as I've seen on other large group noms) would be appreciated as well. I'm waiting for the current "by philosophy" categories to finish before nominating these. (Still taking this slowly.) - jc37 20:57, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, here you go. Would you believe 672 child categories? If you want them formatted somehow, speak up, and I'll see what I can do. Let me know when you want them tagged; it will take the bot nearly 2 hours to complete the task once it begins.... --After Midnight 0001 01:43, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh... My.... Gosh... That was jaw droppingly wow. I think for the nom, we can just paste these to a subpage of UCFD, and provide a link in the nom. for anyone who would like to see them. Did I mention, wow? - jc37 09:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Either that, or create one of the show/hide toggles so that the reader can click to expand and see the list. Or put it on a subpage with a show/hide toggle and transclude it into UCFD. I can certainly help with the formatting and still remain impartial. Just make sure that the nomination mentions how many there are for people who don't click on the link. --After Midnight 0001 12:56, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- I don't like "show/hide", since it doesn't work when javascript is turned off, and we might end up affecting non PC users as well. Also, when the discussion is over, I don't see why the sub-page can't be moved to be a subpage of the archive page (with the link adjusted when archived). Anyway, moved the list to Wikipedia:User categories for discussion/Alma mater list. Nominating shortly, so please feel free to tag all the categories. - jc37 13:41, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, fair enough. I forget that some people don't java.... I'll get the bot to work on the tagging. I will assume that you will use a section header of "Wikipedians by alma mater and subcats". Remember that these need to match in order for the links to go directly to the discussion. All you will have to do is tag the parent and write the nom. --After Midnight 0001 00:13, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, you didn't notice... the nom's already written. - jc37 06:45, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I wish I had; I used the wrong section header. I fixed it by using a span tag.... --After Midnight 0001 23:30, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

(unindent) I closed the debate as delete. Thanks for taking care of the cleanup ^demon[omg plz] 00:12, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Note that the validity of this close is disputed, and nobody should be deleting or depopulating these categories. - auburnpilot talk 06:57, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Per Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 November 7#Category:Wikipedians by alma mater and subcats (closed), the "delete" decision has been overturned. Can the same bot that tagged all of these categories also un-tag them? Thanks. - auburnpilot talk 15:38, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
