[edit] Don MacKinnon
Don MacKinnon (January 2, 1934 - June 1965) was an American disc-jockey (DJ) and a well known Top 40 radio personality. He was raised in Yonkers, New York.
Don worked at KWDM and KIOA in Des Moines, Iowa in the late 1950’s. He spent the 1960’s at several stations in California. Among them were KDEO in San Diego, KROY in Sacramento, KEWB in Oakland, KABC, KLAC and KFWB in Los Angeles.
Known for his spontaneity and weird sense of humor, MacKinnon often used pre-recorded voice tracks he played during his bits. Don Imus was inspired to go into radio from listening to MacKinnon.
His life came to a tragic end in June 1965 when his car went off a cliff at Topanga Canyon. He was working the 12-3PM show at KFWB at the time of the accident. He was 31.
