Talk:Ambiaty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I added the article on Ambiaty, a botanical ingredient from Madagascar. I tried to make this as 'encyclopedic' as possible, based solely on facts from the supplier. Can you please alert me to what portion would need to be removed or reworked? Thank you(Intel1234 (talk) 22:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC))

The problem here is based solely on facts from the supplier. If you don't add references from independent third party sources, then it looks like advertising/spam. If you can find references from maybe a scientific journal, a book, or a reputable newspaper then you're good to go! (you should also add a references section at the bottom like this ==References==. Then put {{Reflist}} in the line under that. Also have a look at WP:CITE. Fribbler (talk) 22:54, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your explanation. I added the references as you suggested to the bottom of the page. The challenge is that this is a brand new botanical and it only comes from one source at this time. That source (Bayer Healthcare) conducted all the testing to determine that the ingredient does indeed improve the condition of the skin. Bayer's Serdex division is also responsible for setting up the Fair Trade, Sustainable Development and Good Collecting Practices I reference in the article. This is all very well documented in the Bayer literature that I reference. So at this time, there are not any third party sources that can back up these claims. Is there anything else I can do or provide to keep this page live? (Intel1234 (talk) 23:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC))

I removed the speedy deletion tag to give you more time. Well, references are the key. Simply googling the plant name Vernonia appendiculata, I good a lot of hits. Some of these are bound to back up at least some of the article here. If Ambiaty is a brand name, though, you have an uphill battle on your hands in terms of keeping the article: a brand name needs to be a household (we're talking Coca-cola household) name. In that case it may be better to Move the article to the plant name. I'd also suggest copying the article to your userpage, just in case it's deleted. Good luck!
