Ambient Assisted Living

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is a technology and innovation funding programme of the European Commission. The AAL program seeks to address the needs of the ageing European population by reducing innovation barriers with the goal to lower future social security costs. The program intends to extend the time the elderly can live in their home environment by increasing the autonomy of people and assisting them in carrying out their daily activities. The AAL intiative is based on Article 169 of the EC Treaty of 1997.
