Ambedkar Institute of Technology (AIT) is one of the few technical institutes established in 2001, by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It is developing as a Centre of Excellence imparting technical education and generating competent professionals with a high degree of credibility, integrity and ethical standards. It is one of the leading engineering college under the umbrella of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.
AIT is currently functioning from its Campus located at Shakarpur, East Delhi. The Institute has taken possession of sprawling area of 8.5 acres at Geeta colony for setting up a State-of-Art Campus with ultra-modern facilities and lush green ambiance all around.
The Foundation Stone of the new campus was laid by Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dikshit on 24 May 2006. Construction work is under way and there are plans to shift into the new campus by November 2007.
Currently AIT has the following branches at the Under-Graduate (B.Tech) Level (number of seats available in each discipline given in parentheses)
- Computer Science and Engineering (60)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering (60)
A third branch of Information Technology(IT) shall be inaugurated once AIT shifts to its new campus at Geeta Colony.
