Ambazac (Occitan: Embasac) is a town and commune in the Haute-Vienne département of central-western France.

At the 1999 census, the population was 4,836. On 1 January 2005, the estimate was 5,132.

- Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, said Molière, comedian et author (1622-1673), in Ambazac he is said to have had the idea of writing Monsieur de Pourceaugnac;
- Maurice Boitel, (1919-2007), painter artist, he painted in Ambazac between 1947 et 1996;
- Albert Besson (1896-1965), medic et hygienist, member of the Académie de Médecine : in Ambazac he wrote L'Hygiène de l'habitation;
- Charles Gounod (1818-1893), composer: he wrote Faust in the castle of Montmerry;
- Raymond de Sèze (1748-1828), barrister & member of the Académie française ;
- Canon Landon, épigraphist & latinist, priest of Ambazac;
- Catherine Cesarsky, astrophysician, International astronomical Union (IAU) chairman from 2006, born in Ambazac in 1943.
