Ambalpadi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ambalpadi or Ambalpady is a locality within town of Udupi, near Mangalore, Karnataka state on the south west coast of India. It was formerly considered as a separate village . The town contains a temple devoted to Kali (an avatar of Shakti) and, within it a temple to Janardhan. Long ago animal sacrifices were held in this temple. Now it has been abandoned. The name of the village comes from Amba, another name of Shakti and padi meaning hillock or forest in Tulu (the corresponding word in Kannada is hadi).
