Ambalapattu

Ambalapattu is a village in Southern India located in Orathanadu taluk, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India.

During 1938-1952, zamindars exploited all the wealth of the people by both land and labour. Before 1947, the British government helped the zamindars. After this incident, that congress government helped the zamindars. In the year 1925,the Communist Party of India(CPI) was born. The first branch of Thanjavur district was inaugurated at Thiruthuraipoondi in 1940. The CPI's objectives were liked by ambal people. More than 90% of the villagers became members of CPI. CPI party members were decided to fight against zamindars.

Objectives of Agitation :

  1. Unregistered land should be stopped from sale by zamindars.
  2. Zamindar system should be aborted.

During these period, many of the villagers were taken into custody. Several cases were registered against the villagers. They went underground to others villages. Some of the protesters were hiding in the Sembalur village. Sambalur Sambasiva Iyar was against the protesters hiding in the village. In Feb, 1950 more than 100 protesters attack the priest's house and loot the things. The prominent protesters are Vatakudi Eraniyan and Arumugam. Throughout all of this, Ambalapattu villagers were get all their demands from T.N.Government through agitation. They also got a Higher Secondary School during this period through agitation.
