[edit] Advocacy filing procedure
These are the guidlines for filling out the new AMA Requests for Assistance system.
[edit] Advocee procedure
(these MUST be followed)
- The Advocee uses the webform box to create a new entry in the format Wikipedia:AMA Requests for Assistance/June 2008/USERNAME.
- The Advocee fills out the form that they are presented with at Wikipedia:AMA Requests for Assistance/Webform and follows the instructions as outlined at Wikipedia:AMA Requests for Assistance/Instructions. These both are presented to them through the webform.
- The Advocee saves their work, and their request is filed under Category:AMA Requests for Assistance.
[edit] Coordinator and Deputy procedure
(these are merely guidelines)
- For new cases
- Periodically check the page for newly listed requests at Category:AMA Requests for Assistance.
- Read over the individual requests and get familiar with them.
- If the request is improperly formed, use good judgement whether to fix it, let it be as is, or delete it and request that the Advocee resubmit.
- If the case can be assigned to an available Advocate:
- Change the bullet under Advocate Status: to "* Pending on Advocate NAME ~~~~"
- Set "new" to "pending"
- Post a request on the Advocate's talk page with a link to the request.
- For Pending cases
- Periodically look over Category:AMA Requests for Assistance/Pending to see if Advocates have accepted pending cases.
- If not, contact them again.
- If a problem arises, add a bullet under Advocate Status: similar to "** Advocate NAME cannot due to X. ~~~~"
- Look for another Advocate who is able to take the case.
- If one is found add an additional bullet under Advocate Status: similar to "* Now pending on Advocate NAME. ~~~~"
- Follow the same steps above if it happens multiple times.
- If it takes a long time (a week or two) to produce an Advocate, contact the Advocee and inquire as to whether or not they still need Advocacy.
- "Under Investigation" cases
- If a case becomes problematic set "X" to "investigation". This can include when it appears to be:
- An inappropriate listing
- A serious problem with an Advocee that you cannot handle
- A serious complaint by an Advocee about any Advocate (including yourself)
- OR anything else where you would need further help from other AMA members.
- Additionally, if you see any cases listed under Category:AMA Requests for Assistance/Under investigation, please take the time to look over them and give your input where necessary.
- For other cases
- Peridocally look over the other subcategories of Category:AMA Requests for Assistance and take appropriate common-sense action where necessary. This may include:
- Asking the Advocate of old Open cases to update their case status.
- Closing cases that state they are closed, but "" is not set to "closed"
- Looking over the exit surveys of recently closed cases for anything unusual.
- Etc. :-)
[edit] Advocate procedure
(these are merely guidelines)
- Accepting a case
- When you accept a case:
- Set "X" to "open"
- Add a bullet under Advocate Status: similar to "** Accepted by ~~~~"
- Read over the preliminary Questions: section.
- Use the Discussion section to discuss the case with your Advocee, or be sure to copy and paste dialogue from your talk pages so there is a record of it.
- When the case is finished:
- Set "open" to "closed"
- Encourage your Advocee to fill out the Followup: section.
- Problems with a case
- If a case becomes problematic set "X" to "investigation". This can include when it appears to be:
- An inappropriate listing
- A serious problem with an Advocee that you cannot handle
- A serious complaint by an Advocee about any Advocate (including yourself)
- OR anything else where you would need further help from other AMA members.
- Also be sure to contact a Deputy or the Coordinator.
- Furthermore, if you see any cases listed under Category:AMA Requests for Assistance/Under investigation, please take the time to look over them and give your input where necessary.
[edit] Add the date
Could someone add a date to the advocacy request? Perhaps it is simplest to add it to the request subpage. This would make it possible to find the oldest request easier. / Fred-Chess 18:28, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- It was recently added to the form that is filled out. So, the new ones should have it. Wikipedia:AMA Requests for Assistance/Requests/December 2006/EverSince has it at the top. I believe Martinp23's working on setting up AMABot to list them on a page by date. Discussion's here. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 22:25, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Legitimacy
Under what legitimacy does this process work, and where can I find details on how the process is supposed to work and what should and shouldn't be disregarded. I ask since I have had a very unfruitful experience with someone who has used an advocate in a manner which I feel has disregarded the neutral point of view foundation issue and the original research policy. I'm curious as to what admins are supposed to be able to do in reaction to advocates and user's using them. Hiding Talk 13:10, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Archive
Are old cases deleted or archived? I am currently searching for a closed case I dealt with some months ago, in order to put forward evidence for my MedCom nomination, but I cannot find anything on the matter.
Cheers and regards,

- It should be listed under Category:AMA Requests for Assistance/Closed or even Category:AMA Requests for Assistance/Cases. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 23:10, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hi
I would like an advocate to help me with a future appeal to the ArbCom. However, the form I am supposed to fill out is quite overwhelming and I can't figure what I'm supposed to do with it...is there any other way to do this? Everyking 07:43, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Opening request for another user
Frater Xyzzy is blocked and asked me to open an advocacy request for him. Is this permitted? Or is there an alternate way for a blocked user to open a request? Please answer on my talk page. Jefferson Anderson 16:58, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Complicated and poorly accessible
This page is unwieldy and inaccessible. It used to be you could review the cases listed all at once and see what they were about. Now you have to drill down and open each one. This makes it difficult to quickly go through the requests. - Keith D. Tyler ¶ (AMA) 19:06, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- This system has been in place for 5 months now. I think it makes it better that you can look at it more specifically for each case instead of a little for everything and 10 minutes of finding background because it's not listed. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 19:14, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image problem
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi
Can you see an image filling up the white space or am I the only who can't see the image? I have deleted the white space but someone else reverted it saying they can see it, could osmeone triple check? (Seong0980 10:21, 15 February 2007 (UTC))
