[edit] Welcome to the Wikipedia
Welcome to the Wikipedia, Alynna.Kasmira! And thanks for the help over on the Economic Determinism article...
Here are some perfunctory useful tips (mostly borrowed from ClockworkSoul), to speed your indoctrination into the Wikipedia experience:
- Take a look at the Wikipedia Tutorial.
- When you have free time, try to grasp some of the nuances at Manual of Style, Assume good faith and Policies and Guidelines. But keep in mind the unique style you brought to the Wiki!
- Don't worry about keeping up with the Jones' learning curve on NPOV, but be respectful of others' POV and use a neutral point of view; your unique perspective on the meaning of neutrality is invaluable!
- If you need any help, post your question at the Help Desk.
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, above all else, do have fun!
And some odds and ends:
- Wikipedia:Policy Library
- Wikipedia:Utilities
- Wikipedia:Cite your sources
- Wikipedia:Verifiability
- Wikipedia:Wikiquette
- Wikipedia:Civility
- Wikipedia:Conflict resolution
- Wikipedia:Brilliant prose
- Wikipedia:Pages needing attention
- Wikipedia:Peer review
- Wikipedia:Bad jokes and other deleted nonsense
- Wikipedia:Village pump
- Wikipedia:Boilerplate text
You can sign your name on any page by typing 4 tildes: ~~~~.
Best of luck, Alynna.Kasmira, and have fun! Ombudsman 29 June 2005 18:11 (UTC)
[edit] U.S. presidential election, 2004, in D.C.
Hi, you put a {{cleanup-context}} on this article. Can you explain me what kind of information should be added ?
Indeed, I put a stub notice only because the detailed results by ward were not in a table as they sould be and not complete, but no because of the introduction.
Thanks,--Revas 5 July 2005 19:15 (UTC)
- The context issue isn't a major one, but I thought it might be helpful to people unfamiliar with the 2004 U.S. presidential election if you started with a little background information (e.g. which candidates were on the ballot) before stating which candidate won D.C.'s popular vote. Maybe a link to a general page about the election would be enough.
- Alynna 5 July 2005 19:23 (UTC)
-
- Actually, the name of the candidates on the ballot are in the table right under...But you're right, I put a link to the main article. Thank you for your contribution.--Revas 5 July 2005 21:14 (UTC)
[edit] 7 July 2005 London bombings memorials and services
I think it should remain a stub, for the time being. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 05:56, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, that's fine. I'm a bit new here, and I'm not always 100% sure about the distinction between a stub and an article needing expansion. Alynna 06:00, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] About your Name
On the Main User Page, you've mentioned that your real name isn't Alynna. I clicked on that link and it showed up as being "Kate" (vague). Is your name Alynna or Kate? Just curious. — Vesther 20:52, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
P.S. You should try to state out your real name on the User Page (like myself) to clarify with such vagueness.
- My real name is in fact neither Alynna nor Kate. Alynna is the alias I use just about everywhere online, because I'm not entirely comfortable revealing my identity to the general public. The link below my statement has nothing to do with my name; it is the edit counter, which was created by Kate. --Alynna 21:31, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] CDP
Hi "Alynna". I am the creator (and I thought only "knower-about") the CDP-USA page. I was wondering how you found the page, since I just created it, and what your interest in the CDP might be. Sincerely, -- Chris 17:05, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
- I found the page because I stub-sort, and it was marked as a stub. I have no particular interest in the CDP, but I try to improve any article I run across. --Alynna 17:11, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Keelboat
Hello, thank you for informing me that my article violated copyright laws, I was not aware that sourced text could be considered a copyright violation. I will try to rephrase the definition as I feel that it is still a noteworthy peice of information to include. I'm still new to adding content to Wikipedia, so I appreciate it.
Demonesque 02:29, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for making it so easy by pointing out it was from Merriam-Webster :)

[edit] James River Bateau
Hi Alynna, Thanks for doing the subject stub properly. I plan to upload to it in a day or so, and if you are interested in bateaus, come back.Phil talk 17:18, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. I realised I may have been a bit hasty when it dawned on me that the James River Bataeu was a boat, not a guy named James. But that's fixed now :) Looking forward to your contribution! --Alynna 17:21, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Www.animateclay.com
Figured you might want to know that I put Www.animateclay.com up for deletion. — ceejayoz ★ 00:55, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know, that's quite conscientious of you. I don't have a vested interest in the page, though; I was just trying to make it a bit less obnoxious, and probably would have nominated it for deletion myself if you hadn't. --Alynna 04:25, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for work on Bollywood
Thanks for giving Bollywood a spring clean. It is the work of so many hands at this point that it was getting somewhat muddled. Zora 01:51, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
- Glad to be of help. I just hope I didn't upset any of the regular contributors... --Alynna 02:47, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Please contact me
Please contact me regarding a dispute over a comment you left on another user's talk page. This is of some importance. You may either leave a message on my talk page, or contact me via one of the methods listed on my user page. Thanks, Kelly Martin 18:36, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
- In this edit you reinstated a comment deleted from another editor's talk page and inappropriately called that person dishonest. Editors are entitled to delete comments from their talk pages without reply; you may assume that if an editor deletes a comment that that editor has read it and does not feel that it merits a reply. Also, deleting discussion comments from one's own talk page is not dishonest; you did that editor a grave insult by doing so. I'd like to discuss this privately in more detail, if possible. Kelly Martin 00:29, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- I apologise again for the angry tone I took when restoring my earlier comment. It was inappropriate for me to refer to an action of another editor as dishonest. While it does not excuse my language, I had just seen that editor take an uncivil tone in two comments (here and here) and then delete, without acknowledgement, a comment I thought deserved a reply. My interpretation, incorrect as it may have been, was that the deletion of my comment was intended to dismiss my remarks. In the future, what action would you recommend I take if I feel that another user is ignoring comments I see as deserving a reply? I don't mean that in a sarcastic way; I honestly want to have more positive interactions with my fellow editors.
- By the way, I would prefer to keep this conversation within Wikipedia, if that's not a problem. --Alynna 02:57, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- I will not address whether or not the conduct of other editor in this matter was inappropriate in any particular way here; that's between me and that editor and we've already had an extensive discussion. In the future, I would suggest that, if an editor refuses to respond to a comment for which you feel a response is required, you should seek input from other editors as to how to proceed. You can do this by asking other editors you've made contact with for advice. If you can convince another editor that the conduct in question is inappropriate, then you can open a request for comment on the first editor's conduct, and the community will then offer suggestions as to whether the conduct was or was not inappropriate, and recommendations as to an appropriate resolution.

- Wikipedia has a number of what we call "brittle editors": people who do quality work generally but do not take well to criticism. Some of them deal with this (e.g. User:Denelson83; see also the RfC about his behavior) by deleting unfavorable comments unanswered, and we (the Wikipedia community) have agreed that this is tolerable. We ask that editors be considerate toward such people. A standard maxim here is "Do not be annoying; likewise, do not be easily annoyed." Kelly Martin 23:39, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your advice. I'll keep that in mind in the future. --Alynna 03:47, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Huge Bollywood revert
Alynna, I may have reverted a lot of your work but ... when I looked at the article as a whole, rather than just the changes I saw in the diffs, I realized that the many small changes you made had covered up some horrible, horrible edits by Harprit (a Hindutva nut with an animus against Muslims and Urdu). I reverted back to the last version before the Harprit attack, because I just could not face having to rewrite everything that he had removed or perverted.
I'm also wondering why you felt that the para re the list of popular films had to be dropped in favor of just an entry in See also. A fair number of the Westerners interested in Bollywood cinema ask "What should I watch" and then I refer them to the Bollywood article. It seems to me that the para gives them more help than just a link in See also. But I could be wrong. Perhaps we could ask some of the other editors what they think. Zora 07:19, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Apology
Hello Alynna, i'm sorry about the whole affair.. I'm not really that "brittle" usually, but the fact that in a large number of articles i write, it seems anonymous people keep deleting or changing information to which, they know nothing about. It's just that when you spend time working on an article when you could be working for over $40 an hour, it gets particularly annoying.
But, i guess i did over-react. It's just that when i saw my template deleted, i was initally already annoyed at before, and that sparked me to get upset because i spent time figuring out how to make a template. I know you say i didn't follow proceedure, but i can assure you, i talked to the people on the #wikipedia channel on freenode, for well over an hour, and told them i was making one.
I wouldn't mind if it was moved for a reason, but most editors who clean up leave little or no reason WHY they are moving it, other than "Moving" or "I'm moving this" -> They may have reasoning, but they just seem to move it for what seems "for the hell of it", and it really does get annoying -> particularly when it happens more than once.
But anyway, i know you do do a good job, and although i've only been registered for about 5 months, before that i did do anonymous edits for well over a year, and i know it isn't a competition, but i was unaware of the linkage of the IRC Channel to the Wikipedia.
I am sorry, i hope you're not too stressed >_<
Love, Jessica (Lifen) Chang (Jessica(Succeeded) 08:47, 7 October 2005 (UTC))
- Thanks for taking the time to talk to me again. We all overreact sometimes. I went a bit overboard there too, and I apologise for my behaviour. I'm glad we can resolve this peacefully, and not stay angry at each other. You do do good work, and I hope to continue to see you around the Wikipedia. I wish you the best of luck.

[edit] Material stub
Hello, You might have noticed that I modified the template:Material-stub. I came across it in my watchlist when you changed Cedar bark textile. I was somewhat confused by the stub at first until I checked the relevant category and realised it was about cloth & textiles. You might also want to recategorize the Category:Materials stubs into Category:Textiles, so that it is not used indiscriminately for all kinds of materials (like wood, stone, metal, plastics, etc.). If am wrong about my assumption that you intended the stub category to apply to fabric/sewing-related items, do not hesitate to revert. Luigizanasi 16:55, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- No, the stub template is not just for textiles. It is in fact for any kind of materials - fabrics, waxes, glues, etc. I fully intended it to be used for all kinds of materials. --Alynna 17:33, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Well that sounds like a big task. Other stub categories you might want to look at for materials include: Category:Organic compound stubs, Category:Polymer stubs, Category:Architecture stubs, Category:Joinery stubs, Category:Botany stubs, Category:Technology stubs, Category:Geology stubs, Category:Industry stubs, and I'm sure I'm missing a lot. For example Lac is tagged as an India-related stub. However, we at Wikipedia:WikiProject Woodworking would appreciate if you would leave the other stubs tags in place (joinery stub, architecture stub, etc.) to make it easier to maintain the stub list on the project page. Note that I'm not saying that you should not add the materials stub, just please leave the old stub there. Thanks, & good luck. Luigizanasi 18:31, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Electric Bicycle
You did some nice work. But your information about having a "power-assisted bicycle defined in the HTA is wrong. (a power-assisted bicycle is NOT defined in the HTA) I changed it once. I'm going to do it again NOW and I expect you to leave it as is. --CyclePat 22:35, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
- Why don't you actually fix the information instead of copy-pasting a second version of the section? --Alynna 22:37, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
ipguy: How do I change the title of this article to remove the hyphen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-assisted_bicycle It should be changed to Power Assisted Bicycle Help?
- At the top of the page you should see a link that says "move". This will enable you to move the article to a different title. However, I'm not sure that needs to be a separate article in the first place; it ought to be redirected to electric bicycle or power-assisted cycles, methinks. Although the latter of those ought to be named in the singular anyway. --Alynna 15:19, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Article fixes
Thanks for re-writing Marina, Egypt in your own words. Do you need help with electric bicycle? Uncle Ed 11:36, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- I think the other 4 editors over there have things pretty well covered now... Thanks, though. --Alynna 15:33, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks a ton !!!
Thanks a ton for the super-fast stub-sorting and copy-edit of Siamese twins (English language). I was too lazy to look up the right stub cat. Next time I work on a language stub, I'll use the ling-stub. btw, ur reply policy is bang opposite to mine. --Gurubrahma 07:38, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks in advance for using the right stub in the future. Happy editing! --Alynna 18:23, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] stub sorting
- Hey, thanks for adding a stub to London Central Mosque, but I just want to tell you it is new practice to add the stubs below the categories so that the stub categories show up last. Thanks. gren グレン 19:17, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- Quick-Draw! You beat me by seconds to stub sorting Grippy, keep up the good work though! Xaosflux 04:16, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

- *laugh* That happens sometimes when Category:Stubs is almost empty... Thanks, you too! --Alynna 04:20, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the help on motorized bicycle. We're going to need it! :) It finally looking like it belongs on the site. It's going to take you and I and Katefan and others to stop this from turning into an edit war. We always have the option of asking for a request for comment on this, though I'd rather avoid that. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 04:10, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Btw
Let's hope that Ben Gatti doesn't try to invade the motorized bike article. CyclePat has been a pain at times, but I don't think he means any harm. Ben means harm. Read the Price-Anderson Act saga. We're up to 6 archives and 400K of talk and nothing is settled. Let's hope MB doesn't go that far. We're actually in our *2nd* mediation on Price-Anderson. It's a mess. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 22:21, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh boy... I'd assumed Ben was either a slightly confused friend of CyclePat or a random troll who was wandering RfC. I think we've made a lot of progress on MB; I'd rather not see it go backwards. --Alynna 23:00, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Electronic media
This article should be reclassified in the stub category. It's basically a list of topics to address, not a proper article at all. See the discussion page. Evan Donovan 01:50, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry. I reverted my change. --Alynna 02:29, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Recycle bin
Recycle bin has been moved to recycling bin, per your request. I've dealt with/am dealing with links relevant to recycling bin, but leaving others, such as deleting files alone. Rob Church Talk 12:27, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

I've been meaning to stop by and thank you for your help on the article, I really appreciate it. It's beginning to take shape as more knowledgeable people come in.

[edit] Gauche
Hey, I was wondering if you could clue me as to why this article reads like an ad? Looks more like a stub to me ;] Figured I'd ask here first tho, before just pulling your tag ;] --VileRage (Talk|Cont) 02:10, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
- Eh, it's borderline, I won't be offended if you remove the tag. I think what made me think it looked ad-like at first glance was the word "handy" and the note that it was useful for daily chores, plus the list of features. It's certainly not as blatant as most ads here, and probably just needs expansion to include some more real information... --Alynna 04:31, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Illam Pronunciation
Are you sure about your IPA transliterations. You don't claim any knowledge of Malayam on your user page and the only way to get a correct transliteration is by working out what the correct Malayalam alphabet spelling is and then transliterating that to IPA.
Malayalam is South Indian (Dravidian), but all Indian languages seem to have some phonetic similarity and my understanding is that what typically transliterates as i in Hindi would be /i/ or /i:/ and what transliterates as a would be /ə/ or /a :/. My guess is that the correct version is /iləm/, but I don't know if the double ll is significant.
If I just wanted to transliterate the original phonetic version, I would have done it myself.--David Woolley 09:31, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm very sorry. I've been learning a bit of IPA and I thought I could help by converting some of the things that were tagged for conversion to IPA. I've reverted my change. I'll stop changing things to IPA. Sorry again. --Alynna 19:15, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Barnstar

[edit] Dario
Hi Alynna, I saw your recomendation to wikify Dario, I had a look and modified it to a merger. Have a look and see what you think, I'll either wikify the article or do the merger myself, but I am not versed enough in the suject to know for sure if I am right. Comments? Smitz 19:51, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
- If that's where this Dario character is from, then a merge would definitely be in order. I don't really have a clue on that tho, although it certainly looks plausible... --Alynna 05:47, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll merge, thanks! Smitz 14:40, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Elizabeth Stroud
A incredibly short stub I thought you might be interested in expanding. --Mairi 02:14, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

- Sorry about that... a while ago I didn't realise that it was meant to be only month/year. I've stopped doing that. --Alynna 04:55, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
