I added multiple sources and removed the "one-source tag". Would welcome more input!--Paul McDonald 04:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Beauty queen" ???

Not exactly sure about the change to "Alyssa Anne George is a beauty queen from Minneapolis, Kansas who will compete in the Miss America 2007 pagent." While many people would argue that is true, the linke Beauty Queen in Wikipedia goes to a song on an album by Roxy Music. In other words, Wikipedia does not really recognize the term "Beauty queesn" but appears to be more in the spirit with "pageant winner" -- I'll wait for comments before making changes, but the term appears to be "dated" -- no one really uses the term in the press anymore, do they?--Paul McDonald 06:42, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Good points. She is a "beauty pageant contestant" or "state-level beauty pageant winner." The "Beauty queen" link is entirely inappropriate for the reasons given. Rklawton 12:45, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough, although it should be noted that "beauty queen" is the useage on almost all the relevant articles. Doesn't mean that's right, and I agree that "pageant titleholder" is perhaps better terminology. I think this needs to be brought to the Wikiproject's attention.
I removed the term "activist" because I think describing a Miss America platform as "activisim" is over the top, not matter how dedicated a contestant is to it. I removed that, and fix a couple of other things to bring the article more into line with the others. PageantUpdater talkcontribs 01:38, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Probably right on the term "activist" ... after reading what you put here, I realised that wasn't quite what I had in mind... thanks!--Paul McDonald 14:41, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
