Alvis James Whitted (born September 4, 1974 in Durham, North Carolina) is an American football player who is a free agent. He played two years as a wide receiver at Orange High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina and was also a standout in track and field and was state champion as a senior in the 100 and 200 meters. Played his college football at North Carolina State University. Notable for participating in the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials, where he finished sixth place in the 200 Meters, running against Michael Johnson and Carl Lewis. He was picked in the 1998 NFL Draft, being drafted in the seventh round by the Jacksonville Jaguars where he played until he was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons in 2002 but he did not make the team. Unfortunately, his tenure with the Jaguars will always be remembered by their fans by his dropped pass in the 1999-2000 AFC Championship Game.

He signed on with the Raiders shortly after and played on special teams during the 2002 NFL season (including the team's Super Bowl XXXVII loss) and played as a wide receiver from 2003 onwards (and special teams until 2005).

Whitted is considered a stereotypical Al Davis (GM of the Raiders) player because of his speed. (Often compared to another Olympic contestant turned Raider, James Jett) He has been criticized for his production in the past. Others point out he did play in 15 of the 16 2005 games and currently he is the 3rd receiver and ranks 3rd on the team in receiving yards.

In the 2006 season, Whitted won a starting job at receiver for the Raiders.

Whitted was cut by the Raiders on September 1, 2007.

Whitted will be remembered as a wide receiver who could make the big play, but also for his chronic inconsistency.
