Talk:Aluminum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the love of Mike, please stop moving the page to a non-standard spelling. The word is "aluminium". Read the article for clear and explicit evidence of this. The variant usage "aluminum" should certainly be mentioned and a redirect from that page to the main page is appropriate. Constantly moving the page to the variant spelling is not appropriate. Tannin
The above is nonsense. "Aluminum" is more standard that "aluminium", if only because the number of people who use that spelling is greater. -- Mike Hardy
Two countries use aluminum. The rest of the English-speaking word uses aluminium. Tannin
Don't those two countries contain more people than the rest of the English-speaking world? -- Mike Hardy
- Not even close. According to the Oxford, English has "official" or "special" status in more than 75 countries with a total population of two billion. Tannin
Yes, but the IUPAC (which is based in the US, by the way) prefers "aluminium" over "aluminum", and to me, that is a good enough reason for us to have the article there. All this stuff is addressed in the article, by the way. --Camembert
Is there any reason why this perfectly sensible redirect is being replaced with a three word article (which is spelt wrong!!!!) DJ Clayworth 20:20, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
