[edit] Summary

In-progress photograph of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Associated Press photographer James "Ike" Altgens. Kennedy is seen through the windshield (behind the rear-view mirror) with his hands near his throat, and with Jackie Kennedy's gloved hand on his left arm. Directly behind the limousine from this angle is the main entrance to the Texas School Book Depository; many people believe Lee Harvey Oswald stands there, while investigations identified him as Depository employee Billy Lovelady.

[edit] Fair Use for Ike Altgens

The image Image:Altgens1.jpg is being linked here; though the picture is originally copyright, I (RadioKirk talk to me 23:39, 4 May 2006 (UTC)) believe this image is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. It is a copy of a photograph released by the Associated Press for dissemination in accompaniment of a major news story;
  2. It is one of the most widely disseminated and reproduced photographs of a news event in US and global history;
  3. Absent the release of this image into the public domain, no free equivalent is possible; and
  4. Reproduction of the image is not believed to limit the copyright owners' rights in any way.
