Altus Lacy Quaintance was an American naturalist, born Dec. 19, 1870 in New Sharon (Iowa) and died on August 7, 1958 in Lake City (Florida). He received a Bachelor of Sciences at the Florida Agricultural College at the University of Florida in 1893, a Master of Science from the Polytechnic Institute in Alabama in 1894 and at the same location, a Doctorate of Sciences in 1915. In 1903, he was hired at the Department of Entomology USDA before doing research on insect pests of fruit trees in the new office of entomology, a function that he retains until his retirement in 1930. Quaintance was also the President of the Entomological Society of Washington[2], and was called to testify before Congress on an Agricultural Appropriation bill [3].
In Maryland, Quaintance was a resident of White Oak.
