Altena (アルテナ Arutena?) is a fictional character and one of the two antagonists of the 26-episode anime Noir created by Bee Train studio. She is voiced by Tarako in the Japanese version, while voiced by Tiffany Grant in the English version.

[edit] Appearance and Personality
Altena is a ranking member of the ruling body which governs Soldats--an ancient, secret society whose power clandestinely reigns over the globe. She makes brief appearances through the beginning of the series and first introduced in episode six. She is the one who raised Chloe and trained her to be an assassin.
Little is known about Altena, but her ultimate goal involves "Le Grand Retour," which intends to revolutionize the Soldats, and as such, there are those in the Soldats who oppose her. Her philosophy is "If love can kill people, hatred can save them."

Not much is known about her past except that her homeland was destroyed during war and Altena was raped by a soldier. This trauma led her to believe if love can destroy, hatred can save. When and how she became the high priestess of Soldats has never been revealed. Although her appearance is that a kind and merciful mother, Altena in fact is skilled with using guns.
Altena works for an event known as "Le Grand Retour" ("The Great Return") for the purpose of reviving Noir; however, a conflict arises between Altena and other high-ranked members of Soldats. While Altena trying to protect the Noir candidates and train them through increasingly difficult life-or-death trials, other just wish to end their existence.
Altena resides in a place called "The Manor" which is a vineyard run with medieval technology. She ordered Kirika Yuumura to execute Mireille Bouquet's family, and perhaps a few years after the incident she adopted Chloe as her personal bodyguard.
After Chloe encounters the pair, Altena orders Chloe to monitor the pair to keep track of their progess.
After Kirika enters the Manor, Altena prepares for the ritual, she is accompanied by other priestesses of Soldats. However, after Chloe is killed and Mireille and Kirika turned against them. Altena convinces the priestesses that Mireille should replace Chloe, but according to their opinions, the Soldats Council member will punish them. Altena states that the Soldats has been consumed by the very greed they once swore to undo. The priestesses state that Altena really does not care about what would happen to both Noir and Soldats and consider her as a traitor.
Betrayed by both Noir and Soldats, Altena maintains the ritual at the Manor dungeon (an open volcano) where she confronts Mireille and Kirika. She insults Mireille's parents, saying that they were lambs for her to sacrifice for her altar. Angered by this, Mireille tries to shoot her, but says that Altena is not worth killing. Altena then injures Mireille and entices Kirika to kill her. Kirika, remmembering her promise with Mireille's mother, shields Mireille and pushes herself and Altena to the lava pit.
While looking at Mireille holding Kirika's hand, Altena meets her demise as she falls off the cliff and disappears in the lava.
