Alpheus rapacida, is a species of snapping shrimp of the family Alpheidae, living on sandy-muddy bottoms at depths of between 5 and 80 m. Its length is up to 6 cm.
It has a triangular rostrum, reaching near the end of the first antennular article, with the rostal carina extending to middle of carapace. Adrostral grooves marked. Merus of larger chelipeds interiorly serrulate, bearing apical spine on inner, outer margins. Outer margin of chela entire, not grooved, lacking longitudinal carinae.
The body is dorsally greenish-brown with cream-colored longitudinal streaks, and the sides cream-coloured. The inner surface of larger chela greenish brown, fingers proximally turquoise and violet, distally pale yellow. The second pereopod distally violet. Antennular flagella yellow. The eggs are green.
It has a worldwide distribution, being found in the Indo-West Pacific oceans, probably arriving in the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal. It is now common on the Israeli coast. In Australia it is found to live in association with gobiid fishes.
