Alpena Public Schools is a Michigan school district encompassing all of Alpena County and, in Presque Isle County, all of Presque Isle Township and part of Krakow Township. APS covers more than 620 square miles and was officially established as Michigan's first county-wide school district in 1963.

All Elementary schools are grades K-6, some with preschool or Head Start programs.

  • Baldwin Elementary School - This building has been demolished.
  • Besser Junior High School - This building was first opened in 1958 as an elementary school, until converted into a junior high building in 1963. It shuttered in 1983 due to declining enrollment, but reopened in 1986 as an elementary school again.
  • Bingham Elementary School - Reopened in September 2004 as the Bingham Arts Academy.
  • Central High School
  • Gordon Consolidated School - This building is now used as the Alpena Public Schools Central Offices and NEMCSA offices.
  • Maple Ridge Elementary School
  • McPhee Elementary School - This building has been demolished.
  • Town Hall Elementary School
