The Barrachois Harbour Yacht Club (BHYC) was established in 1996 as a private, not-for-profit yacht club located in Northern Nova Scotia, Canada, 1.58 nautical miles east-northeast of Tatamagouche overlooking the Northumberland Strait. Sunrise Shore Marina (home of BHYC) has proven itself an excellent "hurricane hole" as evidenced by Hurricane Gustav (2002) and Hurricane Juan (2003). The widespread damage and loss of life in Nova Scotia from Juan has resulted in Juan being retired as a Tropical Storm/Hurricane designation. Damage from Juan was particularly devastating to yacht clubs and marinas in the Halifax, NS area, as well as the Hector Heritage Quay visitors marina in Pictou,NS, Quartermaster Marina and Charlottetown Yacht Club in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. No damage to the marina or berthed vessels was inflicted by either storm, despite an approximately 8' storm surge from Gustav.
BHYC offers racing and cruising programs as well as online resources for powerboats and sailing vessels.
