Aloria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the fictional series The Belgariad by David Eddings, Aloria was the name of the nation of the Alorns, which was broken up into Cherek, Drasnia, Algaria, and Riva during the reign of Cherek Bear-shoulders. Dras Bull-Neck, the eldest son of Cherek, became king of Drasnia, and so on with all of Cherek's other sons. Riva became the king of the Isle of the Winds, and Guardian of the Orb of Aldur. Riva later married Belgarath's daughter, Beldaran, (on the instructions of Aldur) who was Garion's ultimate grandmother. Cherek was not happy about separating his kingdom, as he only received as small part, so Belgarath suggested that the Chereks become a seafaring nation.

Aloria is a very useful tool in diplomacy, as if Drasnia, Riva, Algaria and Cherek made a treaty to not attack Tolnedra, Aloria hadn't, so they were free to attack as Aloria. When this happens, the Drasnians and the Rivans are the infantry (mainly pikemen), Algars are the light cavalry and the Chereks their navy. These different strengths are used to great advantage in the Battle of Vo Mimbre and other battles.
