Alon Ben-Meir

Dr. Alon Ben-Meir (born 1937) is a professor of international relations and Middle Eastern Studies at The New School and at New York University and is the Middle East Project Director at the World Policy Institute. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Ben-Meir has resided in the United States since the late 1960s. He earned his master's degree in philosophy and doctorate in international relations from Oxford University. He is the author of numerous books, including Middle East: Imperatives and Choices, A War We Must Win and The Last Option. Ben-Meir is a syndicated columnist for United Press International, with articles appearing regularly in United States and international newspapers such as the Washington Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Jerusalem Post. Ben-Meir has contributed to many other periodicals, including Middle East Insight, Mediterranean Quarterly, and Middle East Policy and has appeared on the Today show, CNN, Fox News, and The O'Reilly Factor.

A noted journalist and author, Dr. Alon Ben-Meir is professor of international relations and Middle East studies at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University. Ben-Meir holds a masters degree in philosophy and a doctorate in international relations from Oxford University.

His exceptional knowledge and insight, the result of more than 20 years of direct involvement in foreign affairs, with a focus on the Middle East, has allowed Dr. Ben-Meir to offer a uniquely invaluable perspective on the nature of world terrorism, conflict resolution and international negotiations.

He expects to publish his latest books in the winter of 2008; Lost Perspectives that tackles the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a book that addresses the debacle of the Iraq war and its consequences entitled ‘Iraq Divided'.
