Allamuchy Township is a Township in Warren County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township population was 3,877.

Allamuchy Township was incorporated as a township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 4, 1873, from portions of Independence Township.[5]

Allamuchy-Panther Valley is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Allamuchy Township in the eastern region of the Lehigh Valley.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 20.8 square miles (53.8 km²), of which, 20.5 square miles (53.2 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²) of it (1.11%) is water.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 3,877 people, 1,692 households, and 1,133 families residing in the township. The population density was 188.8 people per square mile (72.9/km²). There were 1,774 housing units at an average density of 86.4/sq mi (33.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 95.49% White, 0.93% African American, 0.05% Native American, 1.86% Asian, 0.70% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.68% of the population.

There were 1,692 households out of which 23.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 28.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.80.

In the township the population was spread out with 19.0% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 31.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $70,107, and the median income for a family was $89,653. Males had a median income of $54,743 versus $41,782 for females. The per capita income for the township was $43,552. About 0.3% of families and 1.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.6% of those under age 18 and 3.2% of those age 65 or over.

The Allamuchy Township Committee consists of Mayor Robert Resker (R, term ends December 31, 2009), Council President Michael Sloane (R, 2008), Douglas Ochwat (R, 2007), Betty Schultheis (R, 2007) and Robert P. Smith (R, 2008).[7][8][9]

[edit] Federal, state and county representation

Allamuchy Township is in the Fifth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 23rd Legislative District.[10]

New Jersey's Fifth Congressional District, covering the northern portions of Bergen County, Passaic County and Sussex County and all of Warren County, is represented by Scott Garrett (R, Wantage Township). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Bob Menendez (D, Hoboken).

For the 2008-2009 Legislative Session, the 23rd District of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Leonard Lance (R, Clinton Township) and in the Assembly by Michael J. Doherty (R, Oxford Township) and Marcia A. Karrow (R, Raritan Township).[11] The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).[12]

Warren County is governed by a three-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. As of 2008, Warren County's Freeholders are Freeholder Director John DiMaio (term ends December 31, 2009), Freeholder Deputy Director Richard D. Gardner (2008) and Freeholder Everett A. Chamberlain (2010).[13]

Public school students in kindergarten through eighth grade attend Allamuchy Elementary School, which had an enrollment of 354 students in the 2005-06 school year.[14] The school's Superintendent is Dr. Timothy Frederiks. The Business Administrator is Lorraine E. Snyder.

Students in public school for grades 9-12 attend Hackettstown High School which serves students from Hackettstown, as well as students from the townships of Allamuchy, Independence and Liberty, as part of sending/receiving relationships with the Hackettstown School District.[15]

Interstate 80 crosses Allamuchy Township, and is accessible at Exit 19, County Route 517.
