From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, Aljohnston, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

[edit] Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

[edit] Re: List of albums which do not contain their title track

Hi - I'm a little curious about your additions to List of albums which do not contain their title track. I can't find any evidence that Smashing Pumpkins ever sang songs called "Adore", "Gish", "Machina/The Machines of God", or "Machina II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music". The page makes it clear that it is for albums with titles that are the same as tracks which have been performed by artists, but which don't appear on the albums. If I'm wrong about those three tracks, fine, but if they don't exist, the albums shouldn't be there. Grutness...wha? 00:50, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I misunderstood what the page was about and removed the entries accordingly. --Aljohnston 02:18, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia sections

Hello. Please try to avoid adding Trivia sections to music articles (see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Music/MUSTARD#Trivia). The material you add can always be better integrated into the mainline of the text, as I have done for example on Landslide (song), Today (song), and 1979 (song). [edit] Smashing Pumpkins song articles

  • The articles you are creating violate our policies at WP:MUSIC; and although they're speedy deletion candidates, I am too tired right now to tag them all and I'm pretty sure you don't mean any harm regardless. Try making your case on Talk:The Smashing Pumpkins. Thanks and happy editing. :) Danny Lilithborne 10:01, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
    • It's my mistake; as it turns out, there's no policy regarding individual songs, just suggested guidelines at WP:SONG. I still think it should be discussed at the talk article in question. Thanks. Danny Lilithborne 19:44, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Smashing Pumpkins Wikiproject

Hey there! I noticed that you had a high amount of Smashing Pumpkins-related contributions, and was wondering if you'd consider joining the The Smashing Pumpkins Wikiproject, which is basically a Wikiproject centered around Smashing Pumpkins-related articles. Thanks! --Brandt Luke Zorn 04:48, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Rock music invitation

Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.

[edit] WikiProject Alternative music and sources

As part of the Alternative music WikiProject, we're gathering a list of sources on this page. Could you take a look and perhaps add any written references you have access to? Thanks! CloudNine 10:02, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redesign

I'm informing all of the members of The Smashing Pumpkins WikiProject that I recently redesigned and streamlined the WikiProject page (see here) based on Wikipedia:WikiProject Slayer and partially inspired by Wikipedia:WikiProject Alternative music. If anyone sees anything that needs tweaking, or if you think that the whole thing should be scrapped, say so here (btw, there's also an almost exact replica of what I'm telling you here at that location). Thanks, --Brandt Luke Zorn 00:59, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
