Returning your /. greeting

On Wikipedia! Thanks for adding the catalogs on my recent entries! Jokestress 7 July 2005 02:53 (UTC)

I have rv the csd, but was hoping you could do something to this page to help establish notability, there are recurrent nn vanity additions to irish artists, i think we should be pretty liberal about deciding notability but without a link to a third party exhibition or award it is sometimes hard to decide.Notjim 11:14, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the message and your help with this!Notjim 21:54, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Even worse!

Aieee! Thank you for finding that oophorectomy issue in the bone section on transwomen. I figured out where it came from and so I fixed it. (See the talk page.) I cringe that people may have actually read that.NickGorton 20:37, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

"Scanger" article

I think I should really thank you for all the cleaning up you do on the Scanger article—without you, I think I'd have to bury my head in my hands and cry, what with all the rubbish added to it.

Big thank you again. Very much appreciated! :D

Help out

Hi, have a look here: Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/WikiProject Wikipedians for Decency. -NickGorton 21:02, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

Brendan Smyth

Hello. It is POV to say that his actions were "egregious" (Wordnet: conspicuously and outrageously bad or reprehensible). Wikipedia is not here to judge what is "outrageously bad"; we present information in an npov way and try to not abuse adjectives. You can leave it up to the reader to judge whether his actions were "egregious" (and especially whether they were the most egregious). I'm not defending his actions, but if we present the facts, then readers should be able to judge for themselves that he was egregious without us preaching it to them. 24.224.153.40 00:15, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Wikimedia UK/Wikimania 2006

Hi, this is a circular to Wikipedians in Ireland to draw your attention to Wikimedia UK, where the establishment of a local Wikimedia chapter for the United Kingdom (and possibly for the Republic of Ireland) is being discussed. See the talk page, as well as the mailing list; a meetup will take place to discuss matters in London in September, for anyone who can get there. On another topic, plans are being drawn up for a UK bid for Wikimania 2006, which would be conveniently close to Ireland. On the other hand, Dublin's bid was one of the final three last year - might we bid again? --Kwekubo 03:36, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

NFQ-Ireland Image PNG -> JPG

I was just about to start a battle over Image:NFQ-Ireland.png when I realised that Image:NFQ-Ireland.jpg was uploaded in its place some time ago, the latter been a superior image. You can withdraw your keep[1] as I have done as their is an image available! Thanks. Djegan 18:47, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Done! Thanks, DJ ;-) - Ali-oops 20:14, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi Ali,

I've never accused you of being a sockpuppet of Rms125a (in fact I don't remember ever running into you before). I think Rms125a must be a little confused...

Intresting Ayyavazhi Family

Hai Ali, there are intresting articles about Ayyavazhi, a new religion on both mythology and religiosity. Wikipedia is rich with this topic in English, but poor in other languages. Since french is a leading language in Wikipedia it is better to translate the contents on this Ayyavazhi family to french. - Paul Raj

Scottish Wikipedians' notice board

Since joining Wikipedia recently I have learnt an awful lot, and one of those things is the value of teamwork. It has become increasingly apparent to me that there are absolutely tons of people out there devoted to editing the Scottish articles, but we communicate only haphazardly. To begin to attempt to remedy this, I have initiated a notice board for all Scoto-fans!

You can find it using this shortcut: WP:SCOWNB (yes, I know that it ain't very "short", but our nordic neighbours had first call on WP:SWNB).

Please sign up and post notices, or at least Watch the page.--Mais oui! 15:33, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

From User talk:Ali-oops/Images

I am reposting this here so you don't miss it:

Burning Man image

Did you take the Burning Man image? Currently, attendees at Bman who want to take photos and put them to potential commercial use (such as the GFDL allows) you have to get special permission of the Bman media people. Was this the case to your knowledge in 1999 when you took the photo? I would not be surprised if these restrictions were more recent, but I am trying to make sure that we have permission to use all the images on Burning Man so I would appreciate any info you have on your picture. Thanks! Kit 03:08, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

Answered on your talk page, and on Talk:Burning Man - Ali-oops 09:02, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

John Charles McQuaid

On the subject ...quick question for all of your talk ...Have any of you guys ever met JC?

Eugene C.McQuaid (User:203.76.98.83)

Well, considering I was six years old when John Charles McQuaid died, does it matter? - Ali-oops 15:37, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Stewart Farrar

Thanks. It was in a much better state than most of the Wicca-related articles around here, so it wasn't nearly as much effort to get things referenced and expanded. I'm working on creating Janet Farrar now. Jkelly 22:53, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for my message

I know this probably isn't the place for chat, so please feel to delete this comment after you read it (no offence will be taken!) but thanks for the comment, and double thanks for your loooovely talk page - I just had to nick it, particularly as you borrowed it from a guy called alex s, and I too am Alex S., I felt I had earned the right :D Smitz 20:57, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Buttevant

why wikipedia civility? - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.43.58.100 (talkcontribs)

  • Because you called me an "IGNORANT PERSON" and "BUSYBODY" who was "INTERFERING" with *ahem* your article. That's just rude and uncalled for. If you want to update the article in stages, then why not use your sandbox? Thus, when you're happy, copy it into the main article - Ali-oops 18:11, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Do you have a proprietorial role in wikipedia or are we simply dealing with a fascist Blue Shirt? Things can be done differently. I notice that wikipedia has instructions re treatment of new comers. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.43.58.100 (talkcontribs)

  • Not sure what I'm dealing with. I welcomed you to WP. I tidied up some edits, wikified the Buttevant article. *thanked* you for your edits, which I like. Now, I'm a Blueshirt???? Nobody has a proprietorial role in WP, not I, not you. If you insist on reverting the cleanup tag, at least remember WP:3RR. I'm being nice, I'm being helpful, I'm being patient. What more can I do here? - Ali-oops 19:57, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Right, I shall leave the tag.

Could you please connect "Canon Sheehan" to "Patrick Augustine Sheehan" that I am trying to insert- and which was was deleted by an American analphebete before I could finish what I was writing. Thanks.

I might reconsider the Blue Shirt business!

I accept that there is a nice, polite, cultivated, urbane side to Ali-oo, which is apreciated in the manner of Castiglione. But, the world is in fieri and we have to work fast. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.43.58.100 (talkcontribs)

  • I've done some tidy-up on the article. Reckon the cleanup tag can be reduced to cleanup-section on one or two of the new sections. I've made a first attempt at adding sections - see what you think. Also, I fixed up the disambig page & put dablinks up on the two Sheehan pages.
  • Thank goodness for that! :-) I'm no Blueshirt, nor do I vote Fine Gael. You might want to consider using 'sandbox' pages so you can do your own private editing, if you're finding others are stamping on your edits. That way, you can edit away to your heart's content and only merge it with the live article when you're good and happy with it. Otherwise, well-meaning editors will come around and modify it (as is their right, mind). I see you mentioned Neil O'Donnell and linked to one of his images. Neil is an old aquaintance of mine - he once owned 'Tomo's Bar' in Doneraile, about 10 miles from here - Ali-oops 17:09, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Cognosco hominem. So you know NO'D! Clearly, no question of blue shirts here. I take it all back; my hat off to a sensible man; grovel apology; and crave indulgence - but will not pen rhymes on lost watches nor on their recovery. What a coincidence at such a distance. I reckon you must be located in F to the east, M to the south, or C (aka R) to the north, or 6 miles west of B. Now, with regard to Canon Sheehan, I tried to put up a nice photograph of him from NOD posting. Could you please put it up? I am not very technically minded

I forgot to say thanks for the re-ordering of the "ahem" article. It is beginning to shape up. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.43.58.100 (talkcontribs)

  • Yes, I know Neil. He's a nice man, indeed. Had some heart problems a few years back. If you're talking, tell him one of his friends from the old IOL Cork Usergroup says hello. He mightn't remember me now as I changed my name. I'm in M, by the way. :-) Plain of the Swans. Pic uploaded and added - hope you like. Must say, your edits are coming along nicely. You've provided a lot of content for my small contribution. Chomhgáirdeas leat! Care to take a look at Doneraile or Mallow, County Cork? You might want to think about getting an account, as it'd be nice to attribute the good work to your name. Also, check out WP:IWNB, and add your name to the list - Ali-oops 23:45, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

see what COLLABORATION can do! Thanks. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.43.58.100 (talkcontribs)

  • Indeed! And thank *you* for your patience and diligence - Ali-oops 23:45, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
