From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pub Standards is a monthly event held in London and Melbourne. Pub Standards aims to be an open table discussion among Internet and web enthusiasts, and often involves high participation from open source advocates. There is often a considerable amount of alcohol consumed during a meeting. Attendance is free and open to anyone.
Each Pub Standards has a single meeting point. In London, this is the Bricklayer's Arms, in Fitzrovia, followed by Jerusalem (a club). In Melbourne, the monthly meetup is at the Sherlock Holmes' Bar, in the City district.
Pub Standards events are frequented by several influential members of the Web Standards community.

[edit] History
Although the official UK site claims the first Pub Standards was held in Ancient Greece, this has been rebuked by historians who have discovered that Ancient Greece neither had computers, the Internet, nor a concept of web standards.
The location of the first Pub Standards is slightly disputed between Melbourne and London, although it is mostly agreed to be London. It can also be agreed that the very first Pub Standards from each of these cities was held at approximately the same time, however, Pub Standards London has had a lot more meetings than the Melbourne gathering.
[edit] Substandards
Pub Standards has a weekly spinoff called Substandards. Although Pub Standards is always held at the same location, and monthly, Substandards can never be held at the same location twice.
[edit] Scoring System
Pub Standards has a scoring system. It is possible for a reveller to gather points for attendance.
