[edit] Good article
Wow, this is amazing.
Wikipedia rocks.
- Damn right, son. Feel free to pitch in. There are a lot of Alien-related articles that could use some cleaning up. Teflon Don 05:23, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Biographies
Since you later see Blackwell and Shugi guarding the dropship McCain comes in on, and since McCain would tell Harrison if two of his close friends died, I added in that we must assume they survive and follow McCain, only they just stay in the APC (or another one, there were like three in the marine's convoy)
And you see Decker guarding said convoy, so I put in that he apparently made a quick recovery.
[edit] Primal Hunt
I added a page for the expansion. I'm mentioning it here so that those who follow this page will know about it. It could use some images. Teflon Don 08:05, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Teflon Don. Thanks for adding this. I've been meaning to do it for ages, but have never gotten round to it. I've got the game at home, but I'm rather busy at the moment. However, I'll try to add some screenshots when I can. I'd have thought some shots of the new Predator locations, and some of the (rubbish) new wildlife would be a good start. Cheers, --Plumbago 09:30, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] question
what engine does this game run on?
- I think it's called Lithtech (Talon). Different from the first AvP game anyway. --Plumbago 10:43, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Leopard problems.
The game does not run under leopard, but some edited the article talkin about a patch to solve this problem. We need the link to this patch as in the apple site (as referred by the author) there is no such file.
[edit] Conrad Reference
Have noticed that the name of the marines' ship (the Verloc) is another probable reference to a Joseph Conrad character, as with Nostromo and Sulaco from the first two films- will try and add something into the article to this effect, if I do it wrong someone feel free to clean it up ;) 172.189.93.81 14:33, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bugs section
I've removed this for now as it's both woefully overlong, and written in a rather POV style. WP is not a FAQ for this game; summarising this down to just "Multiplayer AvP2 has a number of bugs" plus an example (or two) of the most serious seems sensible to me. Cheers, --Plumbago 16:20, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Aliens vs. Predator 2 is notorious among its online community for containing a large amount of glitches. One of the most fatal flaws of AVP2 is the lack of cheating protection in the online part of the game. The only way for players to get these cheats is by another programm running with AVP2 or some AVP2 altercations in it's programming. These players use these methods to support themselves when playing online. Common presentations of this include: God mode, No clipping mode, Infinite ammo, aimbot, and a ability to shoot many projectiles in the same instance. Players who use these methods are called hackers. Any form of these cheats is called a hack. If one were to commit such an action then to AVP2 players it would mean to hack. This form of cheating is called hacking and it is the most hated form of cheating on AVP2. Although cheating in this method can result in much more differentSome Players have reacted to this with server modifications that mollify the process of kicking these cheaters off of game servers. However there is no supreme way to alienate this type of cheating from the entire online community. This form of cheating happens so frequently that some players may witness something strange and accuss another player of useing this method of cheating. Strange incidents are most likely results of a slow information exchange between the server's computer and all of the guest, this is called lag. Lag is a severe bug of AVP2 multiplayer. It causes bizarre events. The best way to identify it as lag rather than cheating players is by checking one's average ping and finding out the location of the server and the connection speed. Anyone of this agents could be the root of the lag, however there are some other ways in which lag can occur. If the host, esp. on a non-dedicated server minimizes or exits AVP2 a seris of bizarre events will occur. For instance players will not take damage until the host comes back because the information between players has been halted. A witness may assume that a player has edited health values so that the player will not take damage. Another instance is that explosive projectiles will not explode until the host comes back, in fact the projectiles will usually make a constant aimination of moving through the air. Instead of hitting anything in front of them, they will warp back to where the attacker fired it. Now, when if the host is able to put AVP2 on his screen again, the projectiles will all explode at the same instant. This event is very relative to a cheat in which a player can shoot more than one projectile at once. Lag can activate myriads of problems and glitches. Aimbot is also widely misunderstood. Some players are accused of using aimbots if they are accurate on most of their targets. Aimbot is a hard cheat to detect but it is usually determined if a player absolutly never misses. For more information the aimbot see aimbot. Most cases today players are not using aimbot. Many players have learned a lot of good techniques over the 5 years the game has been out. These techniques help them get frags or score.

- Wow. Harsh. I used to play this game a lot, Clan battle style, back when it first came out. Hammered it for a while, well 2 years nearly. Primarily the issue with the game was poor netcode. The second main issue was lag. The lag was ultimately caused by the poor netcode, and a heck of a lot of mixed connections and international players on dial-up. If you found a solid server though - you were set. But you'd still sometimes hit a major fluctuation when certain players neared you. That was normally a sign that they were either in Japan, or were running something dodgy interfering with the game. Was hacking an issue? Err, not really. Unlike with games such as Counterstrike there was no particular way of making any become invisible, or becoming invincible. Aimbots reputedly existed, but I never saw one - merely lots of accusations. What did exist was a "Pulse Rifle Exploit" (that could be similarly exploited with Miniguns) that involved quickly tapping the fire button rather than holding down fire. Basically the Pulse Rifle would unload 7 rounds instantly when depressed, then slow down to 3 rounds a second. So by tapping it you could cap off 28 rounds a second, two taps invariably took the head off your target with ease (and was seen by some to be some kind of headshot aimbot rather than a simple function of the game). Probably the biggest issue of all was that on such relatively small maps you'd often have 16+ players with T1 thorough to 56k modems from Taiwan to Berlin trying to play the game using several different weapons and species. "Alien" glitches were far more noticeable (notably super speedy aliens, teleporting and similar). Nowadays I would hazard a guess if you played the game the improved connections speeds of those involved would all but eliminate the main issues.--Koncorde 00:02, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dedit Section
Something I read in there that Dedit can make AvP2 un-useable. I totally don't support this, I never even seen avp2 malfunction from dedit, not counting that someone would go out of their way to edit critical game resources. Simply installing the program shouldn't do something like that. And it is not commonly known to cause problems like that. The rest is good besides that one statement and I've never ever seen any evidence to support that statement.--Ace Faolchu (talk) 04:24, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
