I changed this entry to indicate that Alice Randall is the first, rather than the second, African American woman to write and number-one country song. The entry indicated that Donna Summer was the first. However, that reference (while not cited) must refer to a song written by Summer and covered by Dolly Parton during Dolly's "pop" period. While the song was a pop hit recorded by a country artist, it was never a "number one country song."

You assumption is incorrect: Donna Summer (and her husband, Bruce Sudano) cowrote the song "Starting Over Again" which was a #1 Billboard country hit for Dolly Parton in 1980. It was never a pop hit (for anyone), and Donna never released it as a single herself (though she may have recorded it). It was later covered by Reba McEntire, though her version was less successful. Alice Randall's #1 country hit "XXXs and OOOs (An American Girl)" wasn't a #1 country hit (for Trisha Yearwood) until 1994, after it was used as the title song on a TV movie. Alice Randall claims to be the first Af-Am woman to write a #1 country song on her website, and has made the claim in interviews, but she never did any serious research into the claim. In an interview on NPR around the release of The Wind Done Gone, she said she "thought" she was the first, but wasn't absolutely sure. Michigass (talk) 13:28, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
