On March 27, 2007, Government teacher Ruben Pizarro led over 300 Alisal High School students on a march from Alisal High School to the Cesar Chavez Library in an effort to raise awareness of the spike in violence in Salinas since the beginning of 2007. Students were joined by city officials including the city's mayor Dennis Donohue, several city district council members, and the city's Police Chief, Dan Ortega.
