[edit] Gameplay

Gameplay
Gameplay

The game is a typical beat 'em up, in which the Predator must kill all Aliens before advancing through the levels. Some of the Predator's abilities include the possibility to become invisible and charge lasers to destroy all enemies in a screen (at cost of some energy). The player controls a Predator, who receives a distress call and flies to a planet called Vega 4 to hunt the Alien species instead of humans as their original plans because the alien species is seemed to be a more challenging prey than humans.

[edit] Plot

The game takes place on Vega 4 in the city of New Shanghai. During some underground construction, a work crew came upon a species of aliens, who attacked the workers and then quickly moved to the surface. The people of New Shanghai, unfamiliar with the xenomorphs, were quickly overcome, but not before broadcasting a distress signal to Earth which was also received by a passing ship of Predators. The Predators went to Vega 4 to hunt this species of aliens rather than hunting down humans as prey because it was decided that these aliens were more of a challenge than humans. After completing the stages of Vega 4 the player travels to the Orion Nebula, the region of space where this species of Aliens came from. The final boss, the queen alien, can be found there.

[edit] Stages

There are 6 stages which each either 1 or more parts in the stage. 5 of the stages have alien bosses who each possess different powers from the animals they gestated in during their life cycle.

Stage #1 - part#1 = City, part#2 = City Sewers. Boss: Aquatic Alien, having emerged from a dolphin.

Stage #2 - Part#1 = The Woods. Boss: Gorilla Alien, a beast that came from an ape.

Stage #3 - Part#1 = Vega 4 Alien Hive. Boss: A phalanx of Chestburster alien young.

Stage #4 - Part#1 = Space Port. Boss: Bat Alien, a winged alien that emerged from a giant bat.

Stage #5 - Part #1 = Spaceship 1, corridors. Part #2 = Spaceship 2, engine room. Part #3 = Spaceship 3, bridge. Boss: Snake Alien.

Stage #6 - Part #1 = Orion Nebula. Part #2 = Alien Hive (looks similar to stage #3). Boss: The Queen Alien.

[edit] Regional Differences

The Japanese version of the game is titled Aliens vs. Predator rather than Alien vs. Predator, and features an orange-colored Predator who moves slowly, but is able to run by tapping left/right twice, whereas in the western release the character is light brown and moves relatively fast, though he is not able to run. The laser bar required to fully charge in order to shoot lasers is also longer than the western version. Also in the Japanese edition of the game there is a 1 on 1 duel fighting mode where the first player is the Predator and the second player is an Alien.
