[edit] History

Alianza F.C. was formed in 1960, named as Alianza Intercontinental by the founder Peruian Mr.Hocklenderd who was a huge fan of Alianza Lima. Hocklenderd was the owner of the InterContinental hotel in El Salvador and was able to form the club and purchase their spot in the Primera División de Fútbol Profesional from Once Municipal. Alianza was almost immediately successful winning their first tile in 1965-66 under the guidance of Hernán Carrasco Vivanco and the help of great players such as Mario Monge,El "Ruso" Quintanilla,La "Burra" Rivas, El "Tigre" Zamora, Guido Alvarado, Ricardo Sepúlveda and El "Chueco" Hermosilla. One of Alianza greatest Triumphs happened in 1966 when they defeated Santos F.C. at the Estadio Cuscatlán containing the great Pele, they were helped mostly from their foreign players Argentineans Dante Juárez, Juan Veron and Santiago. Alianza F.C. became the first el salvadoran club to win CONCACAF Champions' Cup and continued their raging success defeating Club America (2-0), Clube de Regatas do Flamengo(3-2) and tying (0-0) with C.A. Peñarol. However the club fortunes declined as Alianza F.C. failed to obtain a title for several years. After 20 years out in the wilderness, In 1986 Alianza F.C. achieved it's third title under Ricardo Sepultada and their success began to build again with another title in 1989 under their legendary technician Hernán Carrasco Vivanco and mainly based on the outstanding performance of Chilean Raul Toro. Another title was obtained in the 1993-94 season after defating C.D. FAS 2-1 Alianza goals were scored by Milton "Tigana" Meléndez and the Argentinean Sergio Bufarini, Their achievement were based masterful tactics of the Uruguayan Gustavo Faral. Alianza F.C. International championship drought ended in 1997, when they defeated Saprissa to win UNCAF Club Championship. Their strong momentum lead them to achieve another two domestic title both these achievements were under the watchful eyes of the technician Juan Carlos Masnick and were helped by the heroic players such as Horacio Lugo, Marcelo Bauza and Uruguayan Alexander Curbelo and Adrián de la Cruz. Alianza went on to win the 2001 apetura and 2004 Clasura titles.
